Description:

Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve Backup products provide backup and restore protection for Windows, NetWare, Linux, and UNIX servers as well as Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, UNIX, AS/400, and VMS clients.

Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve Backup is affected by a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability because the application fails to perform proper bounds-checking on data supplied to the application.

This issue affects the Tape Engine service. Specifically, the vulnerability is due to improper handling of opnum 38 in 'TAPEUTIL.dll' and opnum 37 in 'TAPEENG.dll'. An attacker can exploit this issue through specifically crafted RPC packets.
