Title: EF Commander ISO File Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

EF Commander is a file manager available for multiple Microsoft Windows platforms.

EF Commander is prone to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data prior to using it in a finite-sized buffer.

The problem occurs when constructing the full pathname of a file from an ISO image. Specifically, a directory name consisting of several nested directories can be created to exceed the boundaries specified in the ISO format, and consequently exceed the bounds of a fixed-length stack buffer within the application.

An attacker can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code within the context of the user running the affected application.

This issue affects EF Commander 5.75; other versions may also be vulnerable.

Affected Products:

  • EFSoftware EF Commander 5.75
