Title: GeoIP GeoIPUpdate.C Directory Traversal Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
The 'geoip' application is an IP intellegence database that tracks internet vistors.
The application is prone to a directory-traversal vulnerability because it fails to proper sanitize user-input before returning a file. Specifically, this issue occurs because the application fails to sanitize the filename returned by the GET request '/app/update_getfilename?product_id=%s' An attacker's input would include specially crafted HTTP GET requests containing directory-traversal strings.
The attacker can exploit this vulnerability to retrieve arbitrary files from the vulnerable system. Information obtained may aid in further attacks.
This issue affects versions prior to 1.4.0.
