Title: PHPBB Multiple Input Validation Vulnerabilities

Severity: HIGH

Description:

phpBB is a web-based bulletin-board application implemented in PHP.

phpBB is prone to multiple input-validation vulnerabilities because it fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input.

Here are the specific security issues:

- An unspecified problem affects the criteria for 'Bad' redirection targets
- A cross-site scripting issue affects private messages
- An unspecified problem relates to a possible negative start parameter
- Multiple session-verification issues on various forms.

An attacker can exploit these issues to potentially redirect traffic, perform cross-site scripting attacks, and gain unauthorized access; other attacks are also possible. Successful exploits may aid in a remote compromise of the affected application.

Very few technical details are currently available regarding these issues. This BID will be updated as more information becomes available.

Affected Products:

  • Debian Linux 3.1.0
  • Debian Linux 3.1.0 alpha
