Title: OpenSER OSP Module Validateospheader Function Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

OpenSER is an open-source SIP server implemented in C. The OpenSER OSP Module provides the Open Settlement Protocol (OSP) support to the server application. The module is responsible for inter-domain pricing, authorization, and usage exchange.

The OpenSER OSP Module is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized memory buffer.

Specifically, the vulnerability resides in the 'validateospheader()' function when validating OSP headers. An attacker may exploit this issue by manipulating the OSP headers to influence the parameters of the affected function. As a result, memory will become corrupted.

Exploiting this issue allows attackers to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of the affected server application. Failed exploit attempts will likely crash the application, resulting in denial-of-service conditions.

OpenSER OSP versions prior to 1.1.0 are reported vulnerable.

Affected Products:

  • OpenSER OpenSER 0.9.4
  • OpenSER OpenSER 0.9.5
  • OpenSER OpenSER 1.0.0
  • OpenSER OpenSER 1.0.1
  • OpenSER OpenSER 1.0.9
