Title: OpenSER SMS Handling module Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

OpenSER is a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) server available Unix, Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. the SMS module is a Simple Messaging Service module for OpenSER

The OpenSER Simple Message Server (SMS) Module is prone to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability because the application fails to bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer. Specifically, inadequate bounds-checking occurs in the 'fetchsms()' function when copying data from the 'beginning' buffer into the 'PDU' buffer. As a result, memory may become corrupted when processing SMS messages from SIM memory.

Exploiting this issue allows attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the user running the affected application. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial of service.

OpenSER SMS versions prior to 1.1.0 are reported vulnerable..

Affected Products:

  • OpenSER OpenSER 0.9.4
  • OpenSER OpenSER 0.9.5
  • OpenSER OpenSER 1.0.0
  • OpenSER OpenSER 1.0.1
