Title: OpenOffice Remote Word File Integer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
OpenOffice is prone to a remote integer-overflow vulnerability because of a flaw in the 'WW8PLCF::GeneratePLCF()' method when attempting to process malformed Word files. This causes a 'memset()' function to attempt to set excessively large amounts of heap memory to zero, crashing the application. Reports indicate that code-execution may also be possible.
Successfully exploiting this issue allows remote attackers to crash affected applications, denying service to legitimate users. Reportedly this issue may also be exploited to execute arbitrary machine code.
An attacker could exploit this issue by enticing a victim to open a malicious Word file.
OpenOffice 2.1 is vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected.
Affected Products:
- OpenOffice OpenOffice 2.1
