Title: nlog 1.0 IP Address Metacharacter Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
nlog is a suite of log management Perl scripts designed for the nmap port scanning utility. A number of scripts included with versions of this package prior to v1.1 fail to filter user input properly, allowing a remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands with the privileges of the server process. This is accomplished by submitting an "IP address" with the command separation metacharacter (semicolon ; ) followed by commands to execute. One vulnerable script is rpc-nlog.pl, but there are others with the same vulnerability. Consequences of successful exploitation could range from web site defacement to elevation of privileges through locally accessible vulnerabilities.
