Title: 3Com TFTP Transporting Mode Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
3Com TFTP is a freely available TFTP (Trivial FTP) server for use on Microsoft Windows operating systems.
The application is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before storing it in a finite-sized memory buffer.
Specifically, this issue occurs when the application processes an excessively large transporting mode passed to the 'GET' or 'PUT' commands. An attacker may exploit this issue by supplying excessive data larger then '470 bytes' to the vulnerable commands in the affected mode.
An attacker can exploit this issue to cause the application to crash, denying further service to legitimate users. Due to the nature of this issue, the attacker may presumably be able to exploit it for remote code execution.
Version 2.0.1 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.
Affected Products:
- 3Com TFTP Server 2.0.1
