Title: JBoss Java Class DeploymentFileRepository Directory Traversal Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
JBoss is an open-source application server implemented in Java. It is available for multiple operating systems.
The application is prone to a directory-traversal vulnerability because it fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input to the 'setBaseDir()' method of the following class:
'org.jboss.console.manager.DeploymentFileRepository'
Specifically, the affected method fails to check if the user-supplied 'basedir' parameter is outside of the application root directory. Remote attackers may supply a malicious parameter containing directory-traversal strings (../) to exploit this issue.
The affected class is used by the JBoss Web Server's web-console/jmx-console. Other applications that use the affected JBoss Java class may also be vulnerable.
An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to read, create, delete, and overwrite arbitrary files from the vulnerable system in the context of the affected application. Successful exploits can result in a compromise of vulnerable applications.
JBoss Web Server 1.0.0.GA is vulnerable to this issue.
