Title: Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall Multiple Local Denial of Service Vulnerabilities

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall is a firewall implementation for desktop computers running Microsoft Windows.

Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall is prone to multiple local denial-of-service vulnerabilities because the application fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input.

These issues occur due to improper input-sanitization in the functions used while hooking SSDT functions in the operating system. The following functions are vulnerable:

NtCreateFile
NtDeleteFile
NtLoadDriver
NtMapViewOfSection
NtOpenFile
NtSetInformationFile

When these functions receive invalid arguments, a complete computer crash may occur, denying further service to legitimate users.

Exploiting these vulnerabilities allows local attackers to crash affected systems, facilitating a denial-of-service condition on the local computer. Code execution may also be possible, but this has not been confirmed.

Affected Products:

  • Kerio Personal Firewall 4.2.3 .912
  • Kerio Personal Firewall 4.3.246
  • Kerio Personal Firewall 4.3.268
