Title: Neon WebMail For Java Multiple Input Validation Vulnerabilities

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Neon WebMail is a mail client implemented in Java.

The application is prone to multiple input-validation vulnerabilities because it fails to sanitize user-supplied input. These issues include:

- An arbitrary-file-upload vulnerability. In particular, the application stores email file attachments in the '/neonwebmail/users/username/YYYYMMDD' directory. An attacker can access this directory via the Tomcat server. This may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary JSP code on the webserver by sending a specially crafted JSP attachment to a user.

- Multiple SQL-injection vulnerabilities. In particular, the application fails to sanitize user-supplied input to the following servlets and parameters:

'addrlist': adr_sortkey, adr_sortkey_desc
'maillist': sortkey, sortkey_desc

To exploit the addrlist issue, the user must have at least one entry residing in the address book. To exploit the maillist issue, the user must have at least one mail message residing in their inbox.

- An arbitrary-email-manipulation vulnerability. In particular, the application fails to sanitize user-input to the 'userid' parameter when handling requests to move the location of an email message. This issue would allow an attacker to hide emails. This issue resides in the 'updatemail' servlet.

-Multiple directory-traversal vulnerabilities. In particular, the application fails to sanitize user-supplied input to the 'savefolder' and 'savefile' parameters of the 'downloadfile' servlet.

- An HTML-injection vulnerability. In particular, the application fails to sanitize user-supplied input to the 'in_parameter'.

- An unauthorized-access vulnerability. In particular, the application fails to sanitize user-supplied input to the 'in_id' parameter before using this data to update a user's profile. This may allow an attacker to update any profile.

An attacker can exploit these issues to compromise the affected application.

Versions 5.06 and 5.07 (build.200607050) are vulnerable to these issue; prior versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • NeoSys Neon Webmail for Java 5.06
  • NeoSys Neon Webmail for Java 5.07 (build.200607050)
