Title: Joomla! Multiple Security Vulnerabilities
Severity: HIGH
Description:
Joomla! is an open-source content-management application.
Joomla! is prone to multiple security vulnerabilities because of design and configuration weaknesses and a failure in the application to properly sanitize user-supplied input in a variety of scenarios. The issues include:
Multiple input-validation errors:
- 'mosMail()' and 'Josis ValidEmail()' are prone to input-validation problems
- 'globals.php' in 'administrator/index.php'
- in the Admin 'User Manager'
- in the 'poll' module
- the 'josSpoofValue' function hash isn't ensured to be string.
Multiple injection flaws have been addressed:
- a remote execution problem in 'PEAR.php'
- a Zend Hash Del Key Or Index Vulnerability
- the loading of 'globals.php' now uses 'require() rather than 'include_once()'
- blocking the misuse of the '$options' variable
- injection issues in the Admin 'Upload Image' function
- a variety of other code-injection attacks against various functions and configurations.
Multiple access-control problems:
- missing defined '_VALID_MOS' checks
- Admin 'Upload Image' problem uploading below the '/images/stories/' directory
- 'do_pdf' command bypasses authentication
- 'com_content' now dissallows 'emailform' and 'emailsend' when '$mosConfig_hideEmail' is used
- the 'emailform com_content' task can bypass authentication.
Multiple cross-site-scripting vulnerabilities:
- in Admin 'Module Manager'
- in Admin 'Help'
- in 'Search'.
A number of these issues may have already been documented in other BIDs.
A successful exploit of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to compromise the application, access or modify data, steal cookie-based authentication credentials, inject arbitrary hostile code, or even exploit vulnerabilities in the underlying system or database implementation. It is conjectured that some of these issues may facilitate remote unauthorized access. Other attacks are also possible.
All versions of Joomla! prior to version 1.0.11 are vulnerable to these issues. Updates are available.
Affected Products:
- Joomla Joomla 1.0.0
- Joomla Joomla 1.0.1
- Joomla Joomla 1.0.10
- Joomla Joomla 1.0.2
- Joomla Joomla 1.0.3
- Joomla Joomla 1.0.4
- Joomla Joomla 1.0.5
- Joomla Joomla 1.0.7
- Joomla Joomla 1.0.8
- Joomla Joomla 1.0.9
