Title: Globus Toolkit Multiple Local Temporary File Handling Vulnerabilities
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Globus Toolkit is a software package providing services and libraries to aid in implementing Grid computing.
The utility is prone to vulnerabilities that may allow local attackers to create or corrupt arbitrary files or to view sensitive information.
For the information-disclosure vulnerability:
This issue is due to a failure in the 'grid-proxy-init' tool to properly verify the access permissions of the 'proxy credentials' file in the '/tmp' directory before writing data into it. A malicious user can exploit this race-condition vulnerability to access sensitive information; this may lead to further attacks.
For the file-overwrite vulnerability:
This issue is due to a failure in the application to properly set file permissions in the '/tmp' directory. An attacker may use symlink attacks to create or corrupt arbitrary files in the context of the user running the affected application.
A local attacker can exploit this issue to create or corrupt arbitrary files with elevated privileges.
Affected Products:
- Globus Globus Toolkit 3.2.0
- Globus Globus Toolkit 4.0.1
