Title: Libmusicbrainz Multiple Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities
Severity: HIGH
Description:
The libmusicbrainz library allows developers to add MusicBrainz lookup capabilities to their applications. It is implemented in C.
The libmusicbrainz library is prone to multiple buffer-overflow vulnerabilities:
- The library fails to check the length of the HTTP reply location before copying it into a 'kMaxURLLen + 1' byte buffer where kMaxURLLen is a fixed number.
- The library fails to check the length of the URI before copying into either the 'base_buffer' or the 'reference_buffer' that can handle 256 bytes of data. These issues reside in the 'rdfpase.c' file.
An attacker can exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code within the context of the application or to cause a denial-of-service condition.
Versions 2.1.2, SVN 8406, and prior are vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected.
