Title: DConnect Daemon Listen Thread UDP Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
DConnect Daemon is an open source P2P server for the direct connect protocol. It is available for Unix, Linux and other Unix like opearting systems.
DConnect Daemon is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because the application fails to do proper boundary checks before copying user-supplied data into a finite-sized buffer.
In particular this issue occurs when an attacker specifies a nickname longer then 32 chars and copies the nickname into a finite-sized buffer. The problem resides in the 'listen_thread_udp()' function of 'main.c'.
This issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code within the context of thes server or cause the application to crash causing a denial of service.
Version 0.7.0, CVS July 30th 2006 and prior versions are vulnerable to this issue.
Affected Products:
- DConnect DConnect Daemon 0.0.2
- DConnect DConnect Daemon 0.0.3
- DConnect DConnect Daemon 0.7.0
- DConnect DConnect Daemon CVS 30 Jul 2006
