Title: COWON America JetAudio Audio File ID Tag Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

jetAudio is an audio/video player for Microsoft Windows platforms.

jetAudio is prone to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability. This issue arises because the application fails to perform boundary checks before copying user-supplied data into sensitive process buffers.

The vulnerability presents itself when a user tries to create a 'tooltip' using ID tag data such as a title, author name, or album name from an audio file. Excessive string values from a malicious audio file can corrupt process memory, which can ultimately facilitate arbitrary code execution. A successful exploit may allow the attacker to gain unauthorized remote access in the context of an affected user.

Reports indicate that exploitation is possible only when the sound card driver has not been properly installed or has been disabled.

jetAudio version 6.2.6.8330 Basic is reported vulnerable. Other versions may be affected as well.

Affected Products:

  • COWON America jetAudio Basic 6.2.6.8330
