Title: iPlanet/Sun Java Messaging Server Local Information Disclosure Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

iPlanet Messaging Server and Sun Java Messaging Server are prone to a local information-disclosure vulnerability because the application returns part of the configuration file if an error is encountered.

The problem occurs when the application uses 'pipe_master' to view the contents of the 'msg.conf' file in a directory specified by the 'CONFIGROOT' environment variable. The application reads the configuration file; if an error occurs, the application returns part of the file, typically the first line, in a generated error message. An attacker can exploit this issue using a symbolic link in place of the 'msg.conf' file and can retrieve the first line of an arbitrary file on the computer.

An attacker can exploit this issue to retrieve potentially sensitive information that may aid in further attacks.
