Title: ActiveState ActivePerl Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
ActiveState ActivePerl is susceptible to a local privilege-escalation vulnerability because the software fails to ensure that sufficiently secure directory permissions are enforced.
Specifically, the 'site/lib' directory is created with permissions that allow all local users to create files in it. If an attacker creates a 'sitecustomize.pl' script file in this directory, then further ActivePerl invocations will automatically include and execute this script.
This issue allows local attackers to execute Perl script code with the privileges of other users executing ActivePerl on affected computers.
Version 5.8.8.817 of ActivePerl for Windows is vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected.
Affected Products:
- Activestate ActivePerl 5.8.8 .817
