Title: Microsoft Exchange Server Calendar Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

Microsoft Exchange Server is prone to a vulnerability that may let attackers execute code remotely. This issue is exposed when the server handles emails that contain malicious calendar data that is included in meeting requests.

The issue exists in the Collaboration Data Objects for Exchange (CDOEX) and Exchange Collaboration Data Objects(EXCDO) functionality that is responsible for handling calendar content. This vulnerability is due to an error that occurs when the mail server tries to process malformed Virtual Calendar (vCal) or Internet Calendar (iCal) properties. This data is normally transmitted to the server as an email attachment entitled meeting.ics, but an exploit may not require that calendar data be transmitted using that particular filename.

If the issue is successfully exploited, this could completely compromise the computer hosting the mail server.

Affected Products:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2000
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 SP1
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 SP2
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP1
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2
