Title: CGI:IRC Client.C Remote Buffer Overflow and Denial Of Service Vulnerabilities
Severity: HIGH
Description:
CGI:IRC is a web-based IRC client application implemented in Perl. It is available for UNIX, Linux, and other UNIX-like operating systems.
CGI:IRC is susceptible to multiple remote vulnerabilities:
- A buffer-overflow vulnerability. The application fails to perform sufficient boundary checks of user-supplied data before copying it to an insufficiently sized memory buffer. This issue presents itself when the application processes overly large cookie data. HTTP GET requests with malicious cookie data sent to the affected server will trigger this issue.
This issue potentially allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of the affected server process. Failed exploit attempts will likely crash the application, denying service to legitimate users.
- A denial-of-service vulnerability. This issue presents itself due to the improper bounded usage of cookie data. HTTP GET requests containing malicious cookie data will trigger this issue.
This issue allows remote attackers to crash the affected application, denying service to legitimate users.
Version 0.5.7 is vulnerable to these issues; other versions may also be affected.
