Title: Doomsday Multiple Remote Format String Vulnerabilities

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Doomsday is an open-source port of the original Doom engine.

Doomsday is prone to multiple remote format-string vulnerabilities. These issues are due to a failure in the application to properly sanitize user-supplied input.

Specifically, the application fails to properly sanitize the user-supplied input to 'Con_Message' and 'conPrintf' before using it in a formatted-printing function.

An attacker can exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code in the context of the vulnerable application or crash the affected game server, effectively denying service to legitimate users.

Affected Products:

  • Doomsday HQ Doomsday Engine 1.8.6
  • Doomsday HQ Doomsday Engine 1.9.0
  • Gentoo Linux
