Title: OSWiki Username HTML Injection Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

OSWiki is a web-based wiki application written in Ruby, using the Ruby on Rails framework.

OSWiki is affected by an HTML-injection vulnerability. The application fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input to the 'username' input field before including it in dynamically generated content. This content is generated as the username list in the 'list.rhtml' and 'show.rhtml' pages of the application.

The attacker-supplied HTML and script code would be able to access properties of the site, potentially allowing for the theft of cookie-based authentication credentials. An attacker could also exploit this issue to control how the site is rendered to the user; other attacks are also possible.

A victim user who views the vulnerable sections of the site would have the attacker-supplied HTML and script code executed in the security context of the affected site.

OSWiki versions prior to 0.3.1 are vulnerable.

Affected Products:

  • OSWiki OSWiki 0.3.0
