Title: X.Org X Window Server Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
The X.Org X Windows server is a windows server for UNIX, Linux, and variants. It is freely available and distributed publicly.
The X.Org X Window server is prone to a privilege-escalation vulnerability.
The problem occurs because the application improperly verifies an attacker's credentials before permitting access to the 'modulepath' and 'logfile' command-line options. Specifically, the application fails to validate the effective UID and the real UID.
A local attacker can exploit this issue to load arbitrary modules and execute them with superuser privileges or overwrite arbitrary files. This may facilitate a complete compromise of the affected computer.
