Title: @Mail IMG tag HTML Injection Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

@Mail is a web-based interface to an existing mail server.

@Mail is prone to an HTML-injection vulnerability. The application fails to properly sanitize email messages containing HTML image tags before using them in dynamically generated content.

HTML image tags of the form '<img src = "java&#09;script[code]">' allow an attacker to send malicious code to a victim user in an HTML email message.

Attacker-supplied HTML and script code would be executed in the context of the affected site, potentially allowing for the theft of cookie-based authentication credentials. An attacker could also exploit this issue to control how the site is rendered to the user; other attacks are also possible.

Successful exploitation of this issue requires a victim user has @Mail configured to display images in email messages.

Version 4.3 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • @Mail @Mail 4.3
