Title: PowerD Remote Format String Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

PowerD is a daemon to monitor an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). It can notify remote hosts of a power failure.

A remote format-string vulnerability affects the PowerD. The application fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input data before using it in a formatted-printing function. This issue presents itself when the daemon attempts to process specially crafted data as part of the 'WHATIDO' command. The daemon improperly includes the attacker-supplied data to a formatted-printing function.

A remote attacker may leverage this issue to execute arbitrary code with superuser privileges, facilitating the complete compromise of an affected computer.

Affected Products:

  • PowerD PowerD 2.0.2
