Title: Kinesphere Corporation Exchange POP3 Remote RCPT TO Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

The eXchange POP3 application is an email gateway server that can download messages from Internet mailboxes and relay outbound mail as well.

The application is susceptible to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability. The application fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it to an insufficiently sized memory buffer.

This issue presents itself when the SMTP service attempts to process 'RCTP TO' commands containing more than approximately 4112 bytes of email address data. Adjacent memory is overrun with attacker-supplied data, allowing attackers to control the program's normal flow of execution.

This issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of the affected service, facilitating the compromise of affected computers.

Version 5.0 build 050203 is vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • Kinesphere Corporation eXchange POP3 5.0 Build 050203
