Title: @Mail Compose.PL Directory Traversal Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

@Mail is a web-based application used to access email via a web page or wireless device. It is written in Perl.

@Mail is prone to a directory-traversal vulnerability. The application fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input to the 'unique' parameter of 'compose.pl'.

The problem occurs during the attachment-upload process. Through manipulation of the 'unique' parameter, an attacker can exploit this issue to upload a file to an arbitrary location or overwrite an existing file with attacker-supplied data, all in the context of the webserver process.

Successful exploitation may facilitate a compromise of the underlying system; other attacks are also possible.

This issue is reported to affect @Mail installations on Microsoft Windows only. Note that the default installation of Apache on Microsoft Windows is run with SYSTEM privileges, thus elevating the impact of this issue.

Affected Products:

  • @Mail @Mail 4.3
