Title: Red Hat Directory Server / Certificate Server Management Console Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: CRITICAL
Description:
Red Hat Directory Server is an LDAP-based server for Linux, Solaris, and HP platforms.
Red Hat Directory Server and Certificate Server are prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability. This issue arises because the application fails to perform boundary checks before copying user-supplied data into sensitive process buffers.
This issue affects the Admin pages of the Management Console; using the console's Help buttons may trigger it. Reports indicate that this issue can be exploited remotely to execute arbitrary code under some circumstances; local attackers may be able to gain superuser privileges. It was also reported that because of the nature of the affected functions, remote arbitrary code execution isn't possible on UNIX platforms. Therefore, we conjecture that this vulnerability may be exploited remotely on Linux platforms only.
A successful attack may lead to a complete compromise.
Red Hat Directory Server / Red Hat Certificate Server versions prior to 7.1 SP1 are affected. Netscape Directory Server is reported vulnerable as well.
Due to a lack of information, further details cannot be provided at the moment. This BID will be update when more information becomes available.
