Title: Blue Coat Systems WinProxy Remote Host Header Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

Blue Coat Systems WinProxy is an Internet-sharing proxy server that also hosts a series of security, antispam, and antispyware capabilities. WinProxy is available for the Microsoft Windows platform.

A remote buffer-overflow affects Blue Coat Systems WinProxy because it fails to properly validate the length of user-supplied strings before copying them into static process buffers.

This issue arises when attackers issue HTTP requests containing a 'Host:' header with an excessive amount of data. This will allow attacker-supplied data to overwrite critical memory regions and to influence the normal flow of execution.

An attacker may exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the vulnerable application. This may facilitate unauthorized access or privilege escalation.

Blue Coat Systems WinProxy 6.0 is vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected.

Blue Coat Systems ProxyAV is also affected by this issue.

Affected Products:

  • Blue Coat Systems ProxyAV
  • Blue Coat Systems WebProxy 6.0.0
