Title: ImageMagick Image Filename Remote Command Execution Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

ImageMagick is an image-editing application that supports numerous image formats, including PNM. It is available for a variety of platforms including Microsoft Windows, UNIX, and UNIX-variant operating systems.

ImageMagick is prone to a remote shell command-execution vulnerability. This issue presents itself due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data.

This issue arises because image filenames are not properly sanitized of shell metacharacters. To trigger this issue, an attacker can supply a malicious file to a user to be opened with the affected application.

Successful exploitation can allow arbitrary commands to be executed in the context of the affected user. Note that attackers could exploit this issue through other applications that use ImageMagick as the default image viewer.

ImageMagick 6.2.4.5 is reportedly vulnerable. Other versions may be affected as well.
