Title: PTnet IRCD Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

PTnet IRCD is an IRC server.

PTnet IRCD is prone to a remote denial of service vulnerability.

This vulnerability arises when a remote unprivileged user attempts to open a #*.log channel. The #*.log channels are restricted to privileged users only, however, the server opens the channel without any users regardless of the privileges of the attacker.

If an attacker opens many such channels, the server's resources are exhausted and it crashes.

PTnet IRCD 1.5 and 1.6 are reportedly vulnerable to this issue.

Affected Products:

  • PTnet PTnet IRCD 1.5.0
  • PTnet PTnet IRCD 1.6.0
