Title: PHPBB Multiple Unspecified Remote Input Validation Vulnerabilities
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
phpBB is a bulletin-board system written in PHP.
phpBB is prone to multiple unspecified vulnerabilities. Some of these issues stem from insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data.
The following security vulnerabilities were identified by the vendor:
1. The application is affected by a cross-site scripting vulnerability. This issue arises only in Internet Explorer and if HTML tags are allowed and enabled. An attacker may exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser. This may help the attacker steal cookie-based authentication credentials and launch other attacks.
2. The application is also prone to a bbcode script-injection vulnerability. This issue arises only in Internet Explorer and is exploitable through the [url] tag. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to inject arbitrary HTML or script code into the browser of an unsuspecting user in the context of the affected site. This could lead to various attacks.
Versions of phpBB prior to 2.0.19 are vulnerable.
