Title: VMWare ESX Server Management Interface HTML Injection Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
VMware ESX Server is a virtual machine server that allows multiple virtual servers to be deployed and managed. It includes a web-based Management Interface to facilitate administration of the server.
VMware ESX Server is prone to an HTML-injection vulnerability in the Management Interface. This vulnerability arises because the application fails to sanitize user-supplied input.
The issue presents itself when a remote unauthenticated attacker supplies malicious HTML and script code to the application, which may log this code. The attacker-supplied HTML and script code may then execute in a victim's browser when the victim views the application's logs.
An attacker can supply malicious input through the username field of the login page of the Management Interface or the FTP server. The FTP server is not enabled by default.
Note that since only administrators have privileges to view logs, this issue may allow an attacker to obtain administrative credentials.
