Title: Juniper NetScreen-Security Manager Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Juniper NetScreen-Security Manager (NSM) is used to centrally manage a Juniper Networks NetScreen security environment.

Juniper NSM is prone to a remote denial of service vulnerability. This issue arises because the application fails to handle exceptional conditions in a proper manner.

The vulnerability presents itself when the guiSrv process running on TCP port 7800 and the devSrv process running on TCP port 7801 handle specially crafted long strings.

A remote attacker may trigger a crash or hang in the server and deny service to legitimate users. It should be noted that the application ships with a watchdog service that periodically restarts the services.

NSM 2004 FP2 and FP3 are reportedly vulnerable.

Affected Products:

  • Juniper Networks NetScreen-Security Manager (NSM) 2004 FP2
  • Juniper Networks NetScreen-Security Manager (NSM) 2004 FP3
