Description:
Info-ZIP 'unzip' is a utility used to decompress ZIP files. It is freely available for many platforms including UNIX and variants.
Info-ZIP unzip is susceptible to a filename buffer-overflow vulnerability. The application fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized memory buffer.
This issue occurs due to the improper bounds-checking of the filename argument specified on the command line. Filenames of more than several thousand bytes are sufficient to trigger this issue.
This issue allows attackers to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of users running the affected application.
