Title: Redhat Sysreport Insecure Temporary File Creation Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Redhat sysreport is a utility that gathers information about a system's hardware and configuration.

Redhat sysreport creates temporary files in an insecure manner. An attacker with local access could potentially exploit this issue to obtain sensitive information in the context of the affected computer.

The sysreport utility uses a temporary directory insecurely. A local attacker is able to create a symlink to the '/tmp/sysreport.$$' directory, where '$$' represents the process id of the running program, and cause files which are created to be written in arbitrary locations, all with privileges of the user running the sysreport application.

Exploitation would most likely result in loss of confidentiality, data or a denial of service if critical files are overwritten in the attack. Other attacks may be possible as well.
