Title: Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server Security Policy Bypass Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Citrix MetaFrame is a remote desktop management software package distributed by Citrix. It is commercially available for the Microsoft Windows platform.

Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server is susceptible to a server policy bypass vulnerability. This issue is due to the application utilizing and trusting client-supplied data in policy decisions.

This issue presents itself when attackers attempt to utilize the Web interface to launch a client connection to the vulnerable server software. The Web server sends a 'launch.ica' file to the attacker that contains connection settings, along with a 'ClientName' parameter containing data similar to 'WI_<random_string>'.

When the client connection is made back to the Citrix server, the client application sends the 'ClientName' data that originated from the 'launch.ica' file.

If an attacker modifies the 'launch.ica' file prior to its use, the Citrix client application will send incorrect data to the server.

Attackers may bypass security policies by changing the 'ClientName' attribute, as administrators may utilize the 'ClientName' data in policy filters.

This allows attackers to bypass security policies, potentially aiding them in further attacks.

Affected Products:

  • Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0.0
  • Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 4.0.0
