Title: AbiWord RTF File Processing Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

AbiWord is an open-source wordprocessor available for multiple operating systems, including UNIX, Linux, and other UNIX-like operating systems, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows.

AbiWord is susceptible to a buffer-overflow vulnerability. The application fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it to an insufficiently sized memory buffer.

This issue presents itself when RTF (Rich Text Format) files are imported into AbiWord. When the affected application tries to process malicious RTF files, a buffer may be overwritten. As a result, the attacker may be able to modify critical memory control structures.

This issue likely allows attackers to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of the user running the affected application.
