Title: Multiple Vendor Linux Usermode Package Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
A vulnerability exists in the usermode package shipped with various Linux distributions.
It has been discovered that proper authentication does not occur when a local user invokes the 'shutdown' utility specified "now" as an argument. This will effectively initiate a procedure to drop the user into 'single user' mode. As 'single user' mode is not a multi-user environment the user is granted unrestricted control over the system.
