Title: Cambridge Computer Corporation VxFtpSrv Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Cambridge Computer Corporation vxFtpSrv is an FTP server for Windows CE-based Handheld Pro, Pocket PC, Pocket PC 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003 devices.

vxFtpSrv is prone to a remote buffer overflow vulnerability. This issue arises because the application fails to perform boundary checks prior to copying user-supplied data into sensitive process buffers.

Specifically, the vulnerability arises when the application processes a long username. This may trigger a buffer overflow leading to memory corruption.

A successful attack may trigger a crash in the server or lead to arbitrary code execution. The attacker may then gain unauthorized remote access in the context of the server application.

vxFtpSrv 0.9.7 is reported to be affected by this issue. Other versions may also be vulnerable.

Affected Products:

  • Cambridge Computer Corporation vxFtpSrv 0.9.7
