Title: Linux Kernel ZLib Invalid Memory Access Local Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

The Linux kernel contains portions of the zlib library. This library is available to various other kernel modules.

The Linux kernel is reported prone to a local denial-of-service vulnerability. This issue arises because the software fails to handle exceptional conditions in a proper manner.

This issue is in the 'lib/inflate.c' file, in the 'huft_build()' function. By passing malformed data to this function, the kernel may crash because it tries to access an invalid memory location.

This can allow a local attacker to deny service to legitimate users due to a kernel oops. Since the zlib library is used throughout the kernel, attackers may likely find various avenues to exploit this issue.
