Title: XPDF Loca Table Verification Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

The 'xpdf' utility is an open-source implementation of a PDF viewer for the X Window System.

The utility is prone to a remote denial-of-service vulnerability. This issue arises because the application fails to handle exceptional conditions in a proper manner.

Specifically, the vulnerability presents itself when the application tries to verify the validity of the 'loca' table in PDF files. This table contains glyph information for embedded TrueType fonts. If the table is not valid, xpdf tries to recreate the information in it, resulting in an infinitely large file in the 'tmp' directory.

This can result in disk consumption and ultimately lead to a denial-of-service condition.

The kpdf, gpdf, and CUPS utilities are vulnerable to this issue as well.
