Title: Shiny Entertainment Sacrifice Remote Arbitrary Code Execution Vulnerabilities

Description:

Shiny Entertainment Sacrifice is a network enabled strategy game.

Sacrifice is affected by multiple remote arbitrary code execution vulnerabilities. These issues include a remote buffer overflow and a remote format string vulnerability.

The following specific issues were identified:

Sacrifice is prone to a remote buffer overflow vulnerability. This issue arises because the application fails to perform boundary checks prior to copying user-supplied data into finite sized process buffers. The vulnerability presents itself when a remote user sends a long chat message to the application. Messages are handled by the 'GetWord()' function in 'share.dll' and a message containing 256 bytes or more can cause memory corruption leading to a buffer overflow. This issue may be leveraged to execute arbitrary code to gain unauthorized access to a vulnerable computer.

Sacrifice is also prone to a remote format string vulnerability. This issue is due to a failure of the application to properly sanitize user-supplied input prior to utilizing it in a format specifier as a formatted printing function. The vulnerability presents itself when malformed text is handled by a function in the 'game3d.dll' file. This issue can be exploited by sending a malformed text message to the game.

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to modify arbitrary memory locations, resulting in the control of program execution, leading to the ability to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of the affected server.

Sacrifice patch #3 and prior versions are affected by these issues.
