Title: Siemens Santis 50 Wireless Router Web Interface Denial Of Service Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

The Siemens Santis 50 Wireless router is a wi-fi (802.11b) ADSL router.

Siemens Santis 50 Wireless router Web interface is affected by a remote denial of service vulnerability.

The router provides a Web management interface (280/http-mgmt) and a telnet CLI for administration purposes. The Web interface is susceptible to denial of service attacks. A malicious attacker can bombard the Web interface with trigger packets, resulting in the affected device freezing the Web interface. If the Web interface becomes inaccessible, the connection reverts to the telnet CLI. However, the telnet CLI requires no authentication. An attacker can exploit this to gain access to the CLI functions. These functions enable the attacker to discover information about the configuration of the device and connections. The attacker can also erase the FLASH contents.

It should be noted the above interfaces are by default only accessible to the local network.

Information obtained may be used in further attacks against the vulnerable device or the network it operates on.

This issue may also affect the Ericsson HN294dp and Dynalink RTA300W routers. Both devices are believed to use the same hardware as the Siemens Santis 50 Wireless router; this has not been confirmed by Symantec.

Affected Products:

  • Siemens Santis 50 Wireless router 4.2.8.0 firmware
