Title: ClamAV Multiple Integer Overflow Vulnerabilities

Severity: HIGH

Description:

ClamAV is a freely available, open source virus scanning utility. It is available for the Unix and Linux platforms.

ClamAV is susceptible to multiple integer overflow vulnerabilities. These issues are due to a failure of the application to properly ensure that user-supplied input does not result in the overflowing of integer values. This may result in data being copied past the end of a memory buffer.

Specifically, the vulnerabilities present themselves when the ClamAV antivirus library handles malformed TNEF, CHM, & FSG files. Malformed files of other formats may trigger similar issues as well.

It is conjectured that these overflows may cause smaller than expected memory regions to be allocated by the application. Subsequent operations are likely to overwrite memory regions past the end of the allocated buffer, allowing attackers to overwrite critical memory control structures. This may allow attackers to control the flow of execution, and potentially execute attacker-supplied code in the context of the affected application.

ClamAV 0.86.1 and prior versions are reported to be affected.
