Title: WhitSoft Development SlimFTPd Multiple Commands Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
WhitSoft Development SlimFTPd is an FTP server designed for low storage requirements and a small memory footprint. It is freely available for the Microsoft Windows platform.
A remote buffer overflow vulnerability affects WhitSoft Development SlimFTPd. This issue is due to a failure of the application to perform proper bounds checking on user-supplied strings prior to copying them into process buffers.
The problem presents itself when an authenticated user issues a LIST, DELE and RNFR command with excessive string values as parameters. Reportedly, when such a command is handled, the application concatenates the path to the current working directory with the path to the requested file or directory and copies the result in a finite sized buffer of 512 bytes.
An attacker can leverage this issue to execute arbitrary machine code with the privileges of the affected FTP server, facilitating unauthorized access to the vulnerable computer.
Affected Products:
- WhitSoft SlimFTPd 3.15.0
- WhitSoft SlimFTPd 3.16.0
