Title: Veritas Backup Exec/NetBackup Request Packet Denial Of Service Vulnerability

Description:

VERITAS Backup Exec and NetBackup for NetWare Media Servers are prone to a denial of service vulnerability.

VERITAS Backup Exec implements the NMDP protocol for communication with agents (which listen for incoming connections on TCP port 10000). A request packet with an error status value of "0" can cause a NULL pointer derefence attempt, resulting in an unhandled exception. Attackers can construct requests and transmit them to vulnerable hosts to cause a denial of service.

This condition is not believed to be exploitable to execute arbitrary code.
