Title: PAFaq Database Unauthorized Access Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

paFaq is a feature rich FAQ and knowledge base system allowing Web masters to keep an organized database of frequently asked questions. It is implemented in PHP utilizing a MySQL backend.

paFaq is prone to an unauthorized access vulnerability regarding the database. This issue is a result of the application failing to perform access validation on the 'backup.php' script. A remote unauthenticated user can invoke the script and retrieve a complete backup of the application database.

The database contains, among other things, valid usernames and their respective password hashes. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to authenticate to the application using a retrieved administrator username and password hash. Thus greatly enhancing further attacks against the application and the underlying system.

Affected Products:

  • PHP Arena paFaq 0.0.0Beta4
