Title: MAST RunAs Professional Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

MAST RunAs Professional is a replacement for the Windows RunAs command.

RunAs Professional (RunAsP.exe) is affected by a local privilege escalation vulnerability. This issue can allow local attackers to gain elevated privileges potentially facilitating a complete compromise.

Specifically, the application uses an encrypted .rap file to store information such as DOMAIN NAME, USERNAME, PASSWORD, PATH and EXE name, where the EXE name is the name of the executable intended to run with higher privileges. A user simply executes RunAsP.exe which loads the .rap file to run the executable.

The vulnerability arises because a user can simply change the name of an arbitrary executable on the file system to the name specified in the .rap file and the executable will execute with higher privileges. This issue presents itself because the affected application fails to properly verify the executable prior to running it with higher privileges.

RunAs Professional 3.5.1 is affected by this vulnerability. Other versions may be prone to this issue as well.

Affected Products:

  • MAST RunAs Professional 3.5.1
